iVolunteer Documentation

The following documents are provided to aid in the development, deployment, and use of the iVolunteer system. As this project is under continuous development, this documentation cannot be considered conclusive, nor is it necessarily up-to-date or accurate. If you want to learn more about or potentially solve some problem with iVolunteer, this is a good place to start.

Technical Report

This document was authored by Jonathan Spencer and Adam Huffman as the summation of their research on the initial Red Cross project that led to iVolunteer. It includes a good deal of technical information about the implementation as well as the circumstances that led to the choices made for the technologies involved.

User's Guide

The User's Guide was written for the Central MS Chapter of the American Red Cross. It includes screenshots of the system and descriptions of the different features available in that version. It also includes some information regarding the technical implementation, but not nearly as comprehensive as the technical report.

Service Learning, Software Engineering, and Hurricane Katrina - A Case Study

This paper was written by Dr. Donald R. Schwartz, Jonathan F. Spencer, and Adam T. Huffman for submission to The International Conference on Software Engineering Research and Practice '06, part of WORLDCOMP '06, in Las Vegas, NV. It introduces software engineering as a valuable tool to get students involved in disaster relief efforts and contribute to their community in a meaningful way.
